Known in the Dutch colonial days as 'Celebes', the island of Sulawesi lies in the middle of the Indonesian islands, northeast of Bali.
Sulawesi has long been known for producing superior coffees because of it's microclimate, dramatic volcanic mountains that rise sharply from the tropical seas and high river valleys that make perfect growing conditions for fine arabica coffees.
Panache Sulawesi Toraja coffee is grown in Tana Toraja ('Toraja Land') in the remote southern peninsular region, almost astride the equator at 2,000 feet above sea level.
A strong spirit life and spectacular communal buildings, richly decorated with woodcarvings and soaring arch-shaped roofs, are a remarkable testimony of the indigenous people of Toraja and the coffees they produce.
